Trying to organize a tournament in the Detroit area.

Post by hirohiigo on Sat Sep 12, 2009 12:43 am

Copied from Shogi-L:

Hello, all.

I'm new to this google group, and fairly new to Shogi. I learned how to play it a couple of years ago, and have played when I could.

My current interest is in trying to organize a small tournament in the Detroit area. I actually did this once, but only one other person showed up. (Note to self: Better planning next time.) So, this time, I'm trying to gather together a small core group of willing players before scheduling the tournament.

If you live in the vicinity of Detroit, and would be interested in a Shogi tournament, drop me a line via e-mail, or reply to this group, or visit my web site (http://gamesinmichigan.com) and follow the link to the "Chess variant interest group." Yes, I'm interested in Chess variants in general. My personal favorite is actually Xiangqi, with Shogi right behind, but I've found that the Shogi enthusiasts I run into are more enthusiastic, so Shogi is the most likely candidate for a variant tourney.

Once I get enough interest that I can guarantee a minimum of four players will show up, I'll contact the people on my mailing list, and schedule a tournament. No huge deal. Not hordes of players and big cash prizes. Just enough players to make a worthwhile afternoon of Shogi playing, where novices can meet up with opponents, and experts can show off their skills.

Hope this helps in some way.

Did you know there's an anime convention in Philadelphia?

http://www.zenkaikon.com/index.php

Registration for panels is closed now, but why don't you bring a shogi set there and introduce people to shogi?
