Booze

Post by fzort on Wed Sep 23, 2009 12:18 pm

You guys know this one?

http://drunksoft.com/shogi/

It's open source, and the interface is quite nice. As well as standard Shogi, it also plays Mini Shogi (a 5x5 variant, very nice for quick games) and Tori Shogi. It runs on Linux, OS X and Windows.

Some minor caveats: in the default difficulty setting it's too weak even for me (that's saying something), so make sure you pick a larger difficulty level. It also requires quite a bit of RAM (for a ~500MB transposition table).

I have Booze on my computer. It's not a bad program, it's nice for someone who's just starting out, I think. The Mini Shogi and Tori Shogi are nice, too.

My biggest complaint is that its interface is a bit too basic. It's not very attractive at all. I think I would recommend Shogi Variants before I would recommend Booze.
