Mechacon Shogi Panel - July 25, 2009

Back in July I went to an anime convention called Mechacon, in Lafayette, Louisiana, and the organizers of this convention asked me to do a How to Play Shogi panel. So, being someone who wants more and more people to play, I did it. You can find my report of that panel here:

I think promoting shogi at anime events is a very good idea, because you're already surrounded by people who are very interested in Japanese culture. The people there were very interested to hear that Japan plays a different form of chess than us.

So, if you plan on attending any shogi conventions, be sure to either ask if you can host a shogi panel, or simply bring a shogi set and introduce it to random passersby, you'll be sure to get people interested.

If you're interested in attending something like this, I'll be going to Mechacon again next year, 2010, and hosting a How to Play Shogi panel again. It will be in New Orleans, LA, next year.

Slovak Shogi Association regularly promotes shogi at anime conventions, as we've got to shogi through anime

aye i'm thinking of trying that with "learn shogi with tobi" or something like that (since i have his cosplay )

This is awesome. Once Chess Club starts in my school, I'll promote Shogi to my friends as well.
